A woman in Shiv Nagar Colony of Chhatarpur allegedly killed her husband after years of domestic disputes and harassment. After the murder, she remained beside his body for nearly eight hours, crying and expressing regret over what she had done. Later, she visited a well-known Hanuman temple in the city, prayed for forgiveness, and then went straight to the police station to surrender. Dainik Bhaskar spoke to the woman’s family to understand what led to the incident. What is the whole matter? On June 1, around 8 PM, at Civil Line Police Station, a 27-year-old woman named Neelam Kushwaha arrived in a distraught state. She told the police personnel on duty – I have murdered my husband. His dead body is lying in the house. As soon as the woman’s words were heard, there was a stir in the police department. The police immediately reached the spot, where the blood-soaked body of Neelam’s husband, Deendayal Kushwaha (30 years), was lying in the courtyard. According to Civil Line Police Station in-charge Ashutosh Shrotriya, preliminary investigation revealed that Deendayal was addicted to alcohol. He used to beat his wife and children daily. Due to the beating, Deendayal sustained serious injuries to his head, eyes, and legs, which led to his death on the spot. He didn’t give a single rupee for household expenses According to family members, Neelam and Deendayal were married 12 years ago in 2014. They have two children (a 7-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son). Ever since their marriage, Deendayal had been continuously harassing Neelam. He was a mechanic by profession, but he didn’t give a single rupee for household expenses. Had hung the 4-year-old girl upside down Neelam’s mother, Rani Kushwaha, stated that her son-in-law also brutally beat the children. Once, he had hung his 4-year-old daughter upside down, and sometimes he would try to take the children away by putting them in a bag. Wife was living at her parents’ house, divorce case ongoing Fed up with her husband’s cruelty and harassment, Neelam had come to her father’s house with her children 5 years ago. She was supporting her children by working hard herself. She had also filed a divorce case in court about two months ago to separate from her husband permanently. The dispute, starting with verbal abuse, turned into murder Neelam’s mother said that on Sunday, family members had gone to a relative’s place to attend a program. The children were sleeping there, so leaving them there, the parents returned home on Monday. Neelam was alone at home. Around 10 AM, Deendayal arrived there, heavily intoxicated. Broke down the door and entered: Seeing him intoxicated, Neelam refused to open the door and told him to go to work. At this, Deendayal started pelting stones at the house and broke the latch, forcibly entering. Grabbed her hair and beat her: As soon as he entered, he grabbed Neelam’s hair and started beating her, and began uttering very vulgar and abusive words for her daughter. Stick raised in anger: After 12 years of torment and hearing abuses for her innocent daughter, Neelam’s anger reached its peak. She freed herself, picked up a nearby stick, and began to relentlessly strike her husband. She continued to beat her husband with the stick until he fell to the ground. Even after he fell, she continued to beat him for about 10 minutes. Sat by the corpse for 8 hours After the beating, Neelam thought her husband had fainted. She sat on a nearby cot. About 1 hour later, when her parents arrived home, Deendayal had already stopped breathing. Seeing this, the entire family was terrified. From afternoon until evening (about 8 hours), Neelam sat by her husband’s corpse. In the evening, after relatives explained that the entire family should not be punished for this mistake, Neelam decided to go to the police. First, she reached the temple, sat for 10 minutes, and kept apologising Mother Rani said that Neelam, who left home on foot for the police station, first reached the city’s famous Mote ke Mahavir Hanuman Temple. There, she sat for about 10 minutes, crying and praying to God, saying – “Babaji, what I didn’t want to do happened by mistake. I couldn’t bear 12 years of anger and the insult to my children. Forgive me for this sin.” After this, she went straight to the police station and surrendered herself to the law. Children don’t know – father has died The mother said that when her daughter called, we got scared. The children were sleeping, so we left them with relatives and came back. They don’t even know that something like this has happened to their father. Now they will stay with their maternal uncle. We will raise them. If the son-in-law’s family had been good, we wouldn’t have had to see such a day.
