The Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has seized illegal cough syrup worth approximately ₹1.5 crore during a late-night raid in Bhopal’s Gandhinagar area. Ten people have been detained, while investigators have recovered more than 700 boxes of cough syrup along with packaging machinery allegedly used in the illegal operation. The raid was conducted at a house in Dobra Patel City Colony following specific intelligence inputs. The operation began around midnight on Thursday and continued until nearly 3 am on Friday. Cough syrup allegedly manufactured inside house According to STF officials, an illegal cough syrup marketed under the name ‘Aaf Cough’ was allegedly being manufactured and packaged at the premises. During the search, officers found large quantities of cough syrup bottles and cartons stored in two separate rooms of the house. Samples of the seized syrup have been sent for laboratory testing to determine its composition and whether it contains prohibited or narcotic substances. Further action will be taken based on the test results and the identities of those involved. Packaging machinery recovered Investigators also recovered packaging equipment allegedly used for bottling and packing the cough syrup, indicating that the operation may have functioned as a full-scale manufacturing and distribution unit. Local police not informed STF officials said they had been receiving intelligence for some time about the illegal supply of narcotic cough syrup from the Gandhinagar area. To maintain secrecy, the local Gandhinagar police station was not informed in advance about the operation. Several senior STF officers supervised the raid and subsequent seizure proceedings. House owner yet to be contacted The property where the raid was conducted is reportedly owned by a man surnamed Malviya. However, STF officials said they had been unable to establish contact with the owner until the filing of this report. Investigators are now working to identify others linked to the alleged network and determine the areas where the cough syrup was being supplied. The probe is expected to focus on the manufacturing chain, distribution routes and possible interstate connections.
