Renowned poet Dr. Bashir Badr passed away on Thursday afternoon around 12 noon in Bhopal. He was 91. He was laid to rest in the evening. As the news of his demise spread, a wave of grief swept across literary circles. Writers, poets and admirers from across the country paid heartfelt tributes, sharing emotional posts in his memory. Reports suggest that Bashir Badr had been battling a prolonged illness, including dementia. His memory had significantly weakened over time, and he had gradually become unable to recognise people. In the year 1969, he obtained his postgraduate degree from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). After that, on August 12, 1974, he joined the Urdu department of Meerut College as a lecturer and served there until the year 1990. The period between 1974 and 1990 is considered the golden era of his life. During this time, his poetry touched new heights and he succeeded in making a name for himself in the country and abroad.
