Madhya Pradesh continues to reel under intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures crossing 43°C in most cities across the state. On Saturday, Nowgong and Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district emerged as the hottest locations. Nowgong recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5°C, while Khajuraho registered 45.4°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that residents are unlikely to get relief from severe heat and heatwave conditions over the next four days. The IMD’s Bhopal office has issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions in Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna and Satna districts for Sunday. Apart from this, orange alerts have been issued in 11 districts and yellow alerts in 22 districts, taking the total number of heatwave-affected districts in the state to 37. The department has released a four-day forecast till May 27, stating that severe heat conditions will continue across the state with little possibility of immediate relief. The nine-day “Nautapa” period, considered traditionally the hottest phase of summer, begins on May 25. Cities including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur are expected to experience intense heat during this period. Doctors warn against heat-related health problems With temperatures touching 45°C in several areas, doctors have warned that extreme heat can trigger indigestion and acidity-related problems if precautions are not taken. Experts advise people to maintain proper hydration, follow a balanced diet and adopt lifestyle changes to avoid heat-related illnesses.
