The newly formed Sixth State Finance Commission of the state will be on a visit to Gwalior on Wednesday. Two important meetings will be organised in the city under the chairmanship of Commission Chairman Jaybhan Singh Pawaiya. These meetings will discuss in detail topics such as the financial status of local self-governing institutions, transparency, quality of development works, and economic self-reliance. The Commission will also conduct surprise inspections to ascertain the actual status of implementation of central and state government schemes. The Commission delegation visiting Gwalior will include Chairman Jaybhan Singh Pawaiya, along with Member K.K. Singh and Member Secretary Virendra Kumar. The main objective of the Commission is to collect ground-level information related to the financial strengthening of urban bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions, so that future policies and recommendations can be made more effective. According to the scheduled program, the first meeting will be held at 11:30 AM at the VIP Circuit House located in Murar. Ministers of the district, MPs, MLAs, Mayor, Municipal Corporation President, District Panchayat President, along with representatives of urban bodies and panchayats have been invited to this meeting. In this meeting, discussions will be held on the financial challenges of local bodies, availability of resources, and the implementation of development schemes. The commission will also try to understand from public representatives what reforms are needed to make local institutions more financially self-reliant. Suggestions will also be obtained from public representatives and officials. After this, at 2:30 PM, a divisional-level review meeting will be organised in the auditorium of the Divisional Commissioner’s office located at Chandrabadni Naka. This meeting will include the Divisional Commissioner of Gwalior Division, Collectors of various districts, Municipal Corporation Commissioners, and Chief Municipal Officers of all district headquarters. In this review meeting, discussions will be held on sanitation arrangements, drinking water supply, quality of development works, and measures to increase the own revenue sources of local bodies. There will also be discussions on cooperative-based innovations and better implementation of schemes in urban and panchayat areas. The commission’s team will reach Morena on May 21 and will also hold a meeting with public representatives and officials of the Chambal division.
