In Bhopal’s Sonagiri area, a man attacked his live-in partner with a hammer on Sunday morning. Believing the woman had died, he later died by suicide. He slit his throat twice with a knife and then stabbed himself multiple times in the stomach. He collapsed on the road and died a few minutes later. A video of the incident has also surfaced. According to information, the deceased was identified as 50-year-old Laxman Prasad Richhariya. He was living in a live-in relationship with a woman in the Sonagiri area. The woman sustained serious head injuries in the hammer attack and is undergoing treatment in hospital. In the video, people nearby can be heard discussing calling the police. However, no one was seen intervening or attempting to take the knife away from the man. People present at the scene said everything happened very quickly and they could not immediately understand the situation. Some bystanders watched from a distance while the man continued harming himself. Laxman was living in a live-in relationship after his wife’s death According to Additional DCP Gautam Solanki, Laxman Prasad Richhariya was a resident of the C-Sector slum area in Sonagiri and worked as a driver. His wife had died around five years ago, after which he began living with Kalpana in a live-in relationship. Kalpana also lived in the Sonagiri locality but had reportedly been living separately from her husband for a long time. She worked in households doing cleaning and cooking jobs. During this period, she became friends with Laxman and later started living with him. He suspected her character, quarrels were frequent Police said neighbours informed investigators that Laxman often suspected Kalpana’s character, leading to frequent disputes between the two. Police have recovered the hammer and knife used in the incident. Further investigation is underway.
