A DRDO employee’s house in Gwalior was targeted by thieves while he had gone to attend his niece’s wedding. The unidentified burglars fled with gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees along with cash from the locked house. The incident came to light when the employee returned home with his family on Saturday evening after the wedding ceremony. The locks of the house were found broken and household items were lying scattered inside. Following a complaint, Hajira police station registered a case against unknown thieves and began an investigation. According to information, Tehsildar Gurjar, a resident of Mangal Enclave behind Triple IITM College, is employed with DRDO. On May 7, he had gone with his family to Daulsa Rithora to attend his niece’s wedding. During this period, thieves took advantage of the locked house and carried out the burglary. Entered through the roof It is being said that the burglars entered the house through the roof. They allegedly cut through an iron sheet installed on the rooftop to gain entry and then broke open the locks of cupboards and storage boxes. The thieves escaped with around 6.5 tolas of gold jewellery, nearly one kilogram of silver and Rs 10,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be around Rs 12 lakh. According to the victim’s family, the stolen valuables included a gold mangalsutra, earrings, tops, rings and other jewellery items. Silver bangles, coins, talismans, anklets and toe rings were also stolen by the burglars. When Tehsildar Gurjar returned home with his family on Saturday evening, they found the locks of the main door broken. Household items inside the rooms were scattered. Police were informed immediately after the discovery. Hajira police station in-charge Jitendra Singh Tomar said police have registered a case against unidentified accused. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and efforts are being made to trace the culprits soon.
