A man attacked his live-in partner with a hammer and fractured her skull in Bhopal’s Piplani police station area. The incident took place at around 11 am on Sunday in Sonagiri C-Sector. Believing the woman to be dead after the assault, the man later stabbed himself in the neck and stomach and died by suicide. Police reached the spot after receiving information and rushed both to hospital. Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Preliminary inquiry suggests the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. Laxman’s wife died 5 years ago According to Additional DCP Gautam Solanki, Laxman Prasad Richhariya (50), a resident of Sonagiri C-Sector, worked as a private vehicle driver. His wife had died around five years ago. Since then, he had been living in a live-in relationship with Kalpana Bharti, who lived in the same locality. Kalpana had reportedly been living separately from her husband for a long time. She worked in households doing cleaning and cooking jobs. Police said- He was suspicious of Kalpana’s character After receiving information, an FSL team reached the spot, collected evidence and inspected the crime scene. Police seized the knife used by Laxman to attack himself. His body has been sent to GMC for postmortem. Police said the exact reason behind the incident is still not clear. During questioning, it emerged that Laxman suspected Kalpana’s character. The couple allegedly used to fight frequently over the issue. The woman was admitted to a private hospital Despite being hit on the head with a hammer, Kalpana Bharti survived the attack. She was first taken to a private hospital in Bhopal in critical condition and was later admitted to Hamidia Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
