A man and a woman were brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons in Anuppur district. The body of Surendra Soni (26) was found lying near a roadside, while the body of Lalli Bai Gond (45) was discovered inside her house in a blood-soaked condition. The incident took place in Ward No. 7 of Bijuri municipality. Local residents spotted the bodies on Friday morning and informed the police. Attack suspected during Thursday night Station House Officer Vikas Singh said the murders are believed to have taken place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. Preliminary investigation suggests the victims were attacked with a sharp weapon, possibly a tangi or an axe. Police said an FSL team and dog squad have been called to the spot to assist in the investigation. Her daughter-in-law had also gone to her parental home and returned after receiving news of the murder. Surendra Soni’s grandfather, Jagdish Soni, told police that Surendra had returned home late at night after consuming alcohol while his wife was preparing food. According to him, Surendra stepped out of the house shortly afterward. Soon after, cries of “kill him, kill him” were heard from outside. Family suspects presence of others at woman’s house Jagdish Soni suspected that some people may have been present at Lalli Bai’s house when Surendra reached there. He alleged that Surendra might have been attacked after arriving at the house, though police are yet to confirm the sequence of events. Officials said further details will emerge after forensic examination and investigation.
