A large gang involved in the black marketing of IPL match tickets and complimentary passes near Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium was busted on March 8. The Crime Branch team arrested 3 accused near Delhi Gate, who were cheating cricket fans by posing as authorised representatives of DDCA before the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals match. A media report claimed that these passes were being sold at a petrol pump near Arun Jaitley Stadium. Police recovered 54 match tickets, including 33 complimentary passes marked ‘Not For Sale’. These accused were selling free passes at an exorbitant price of ₹20,000 per pass, while regular tickets were being sold at double the print rate. DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav (IPS) stated that the accused have been taken into police remand. Investigation is ongoing to identify others involved in this syndicate. If any other person’s involvement is found, strict legal action will be taken against them as well. Network spread across the country via flights Investigation revealed that this gang was active not only in Delhi but across India. The accused used to travel by flight to cities where IPL matches were held. The accused were providing premium tickets to online bettors (satta players) and high-profile pickpockets inside the stadium. Police are now investigating where and through whom these accused were receiving a large number of complimentary passes. Accused’s old criminal record According to the Crime Branch, several cases of ticket black marketing have already been registered against these three accused in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. A case has also been registered against accused Faisal under the Gambling Act in Punjab. Police recovered ₹25,000 cash and 54 tickets from the accused and registered a case under various sections of the new laws (BNS) instead of IPC.
