The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has busted a secret lab manufacturing synthetic drug mephedrone in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district. During the raid, officials seized 21.189 kg of mephedrone, around 487 grams of opium and a large quantity of chemicals used in making drugs. The estimated value of the seized material is around Rs 2 crore. The illegal lab was operating on agricultural land near Lasudiya Ila village in Daloda tehsil of Mandsaur district. Two accused were arrested from the spot. Officials said both have a criminal background. Inside the secret mephedrone lab: See photos from the raid Secret lab was operating in rooms built on farmland According to officials, the synthetic drug was being manufactured inside rooms constructed on agricultural land. A large quantity of chemicals and equipment used for preparing drugs was recovered during the operation. Lab equipment and other materials packed in 10 bags were also seized. Joint CBN team carried out surveillance Deputy Narcotics Commissioner Kota Naresh Bundel said CBN officials had received information about illegal production of synthetic drugs in the area. Following the tip-off, a joint team of Chittorgarh-I, II and III divisions was formed for the operation. The team conducted surveillance and mapped the area before identifying the suspicious location. Officials from the Madhya Pradesh unit of CBN and the Jawra preventive cell also assisted in the operation. Chemicals, equipment and opium recovered During the search conducted on Thursday, officials found a fully operational illegal mephedrone lab. Along with the drugs, the team recovered 30.800 litres of chemicals, including hydrochloric acid (HCL), and equipment used in drug manufacturing. CBN officials arrested two accused under the NDPS Act. The agency is now investigating the drug syndicate’s network, supply of chemicals, financial transactions and possible interstate links.
