A police team in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district was attacked by villagers when it reached a village to investigate a theft case. During the chaos, two policemen, including a woman constable, were nearly locked inside a room, and their uniforms were torn. The situation turned tense in Kulbahariya village under Mauganj police station limits. More police personnel were rushed to the spot after the incident, and only then was the situation brought under control. The case is linked to a theft reported in September 2025 at the house of Ram Lakhan Sharma. Around ₹40,000 in cash and some jewellery were stolen from his home. Family members said the locks of the chest and cupboard were still intact, which made the case unusual. They also said the younger son and his wife live outside, and the key to the room was with the elderly woman of the house. The theft came to light when the family returned home during the Holi festival. Team had arrived to serve theft notice
After the complaint, a case was registered on April 14, 2026, and the police started the investigation. Based on suspicion, Priyanka Sharma was called for questioning several times, but she did not appear. On Tuesday, the police team had reached Shukulgawan village in the Laur police station area to serve the notice. Attempt to imprison police personnel As soon as the police arrived, the women of the house became agitated. It is alleged that they misbehaved and tried to drag a female constable inside the house and close the door. Sub-inspector Gyanendra Patel was also pushed and shoved. During the scuffle, policeman Satyam and woman constable Rekha were attempted to be locked in a room. In the struggle, both their uniforms were torn. Seeing themselves surrounded, the police team immediately informed the police station and Laur police. Police Vehicle Stopped by Lying on the Road When additional force arrived at the spot, the protesting women lay down in front of the police vehicle, which led to tension for a long time. Later, after persuasion, the situation was brought under control and the policemen were taken out. According to SDOP Sachi Pathak, preparations are being made to register a case under serious sections like obstruction of government work, assault, and indecency.
