campaign-to-make-the-world-of-fashion-pollution-free:amazon-founder-bezos-and-his-wife-donate-₹2,322-crore-to-make-eco-friendly-clothes

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez have donated approximately ₹2,322 crore to make the fashion world pollution-free. This amount will be spent on lab-grown fibers, bacteria-made threads, and fabrics prepared from agricultural waste. For Lauren, this is an emotional decision. Due to poverty, she had sewn her own prom dress. Now she is helping scientists who are changing traditional methods of fabric production. The goal of this fund is to deliver environment-friendly clothes to customers within 3-5 years. This will reduce the fashion industry’s dependence on polluting synthetic materials and fossil fuels. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos is the world’s third richest person with assets worth ₹26.45 lakh crore. Lauren’s childhood was spent amidst struggles. She didn’t have money to buy an expensive dress for her high school prom. She learned sewing from her grandmother and made a red puff-sleeve dress herself. She used to serve coffee and do housekeeping with her grandmother to earn money. But now she is not limited to just wearing expensive gowns. She is also deciding what clothes will be made from in the future. Her contribution will not only help save the environment, but will also bring such innovations in the fashion world that will make clothing production completely safe. Sanchez has been given a grant to shape the future of fashion. This will fund research on silk-like threads made from industrial waste and cotton genetics. Bezos and Lauren are supporting scientists who are looking for alternatives to traditional and polluting methods of making clothes. The fashion industry extensively uses synthetic materials like polyester. These harm the environment. Amazon is the world’s largest clothing retailer, so Sanchez’s step is being considered important for reducing pollution and making fashion safer. Currently making eco-friendly clothes from mushrooms and marine waste is expensive, now prices will come down Sanchez’s donation will help five major institutions. The Bezos Earth Fund’s grant money will be given to five institutions like Columbia University, UC Berkeley, and the Cotton Foundation. Until now, making eco-friendly clothes from mushrooms and marine waste has been quite expensive. With the help of the Bezos couple, large-scale production of these sustainable fabrics will now be possible and prices will come down.
