A moving Ertiga car caught fire on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway near Maujpur in Alwar district, killing five occupants who were burnt alive. After the blaze was extinguished, rescue teams recovered only skeletal remains from the vehicle. The driver managed to jump out moments after the fire broke out and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He has been referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment. Police said the victims were residents of Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh and were returning home after visiting Vaishno Devi shrine. Short circuit suspected, incident late Wednesday night According to police, the incident occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday near the SSB training centre in Maujpur. Traffic on the expressway was briefly disrupted following the accident. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. CNG likely intensified blaze, no time to escape Alwar Additional Superintendent of Police Priyanka Raghuvanshi said Laxmangarh police received information about the incident around 11:15 pm, and a fire brigade reached the spot by 11:30 pm. “It took nearly 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. The blaze spread rapidly, possibly due to CNG, leaving the occupants with no time to escape,” she said. The driver remains in critical condition, while further investigation is underway.
