Police from Kuthla station allegedly stormed a wedding house in the Indira Nagar area late Monday night and began lathi-charging guests and family members in Katni. Around 2:30 am, they took the groom, the bride, and her brother to the police station. The family claims they were released only after repeated pleas at around 4 am, after which the wedding rituals resumed. According to relatives, the assault left at least 14 people injured, including women and children. The bride’s brother, Akash Chaudhary, and the groom’s uncle reportedly suffered fractures, while others sustained serious head injuries. The victims approached the SP office during a public hearing on Tuesday and lodged a complaint. The vehicle in which the groom was seated broke down on the way. Due to this, the procession was delayed by about two hours. When the procession was about 50 meters away from the bride’s house at around 1:30 AM at night, police from Kuthla police station arrived at the spot. It is alleged that the police started pushing the wedding party members without any conversation. When the wedding party protested, the dispute escalated. After this, the police left the spot. The victim’s side stated that the police entered the house and assaulted people. During this, women and children who came to intervene were beaten with sticks and batons. This resulted in fractures to the hands of several people, including the bride’s brother, Akash Chaudhary, and the groom’s uncle. Some people also sustained serious head injuries.
