The Maharajpura police have arrested a man and seized an illegal rifle along with 10 live cartridges in a crackdown on unlawful arms possession. During questioning, the accused told police he had bought the weapon for ₹20,000 from a suspected smuggler. A search is now underway to trace the supplier. Police said they had received a tip-off about a youth moving suspiciously with a rifle on the Mukka Dang–Guthina road in the Maharajpura area. Acting on the input, CSP Nagendra Singh Sikarwar directed the station in-charge and Baretha outpost in-charge Saurabh Srivastava to launch an immediate operation. When the police team reached the spot, the suspect attempted to flee but was chased and caught after being surrounded. A search led to the recovery of an illegal rifle and 10 live cartridges. The accused was identified as Hemraj Gurjar, a resident of Kheria Crusher. During interrogation, he allegedly revealed that he had procured the rifle from Sonu Gurjar, a resident of Padhawali in Morena district. Following the disclosure, police have intensified efforts to track down the alleged supplier, with a team dispatched to Morena. Officials said the arrest could help uncover a wider network involved in illegal arms trafficking in the region. ASP Vidit Dagar confirmed the arrest and said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend others linked to the racket.
