In the 22nd match of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined for slow over-rate. During the match played against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Kolkata team failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time. Due to the violation of the IPL Code of Conduct, BCCI has taken this action against the captain. This is KKR’s first slow over-rate of the season According to the official statement released after the match, under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, this was Kolkata Knight Riders’ first offence of the season. As per the rules, being the first offence of the season, captain Ajinkya Rahane was only fined 12 lakh rupees and let off. If the team commits such an offence again, the fine amount will increase, and other players of the team may also be fined a percentage of their match fees. What is the rule for slow over rate? According to IPL rules, each team is given a specific time (one and a half hours or 90 minutes, including strategic breaks) to bowl 20 overs. If the team falls behind the stipulated time by the end of the innings, it is considered a ‘slow over rate’. On-field umpires and match referees monitor this. It is the captain’s responsibility to maintain the pace of the game. A ban may be imposed for the next mistake According to IPL rules, if Rahane’s team commits a slow over rate offence for the second time in the season, the captain will be fined 24 lakh rupees, and the rest of the team members will be fined 25% of their match fee or 6 lakh rupees (whichever is less). Moreover, if this happens for the third time, the captain could also face a fine of 30 lakh and a one-match ban.
