Youth Congress took out a rally in Jabalpur on Monday in protest against the proposed trade deal. Led by national president Uday Bhanu Chib, workers marched towards the Collectorate for a gherao, but were stopped by police through barricading at the spot. Police had to use water cannons during the standoff. More than 100 workers including state president arrested Police used water cannons continuously for nearly half an hour at Ghantaghar, but the workers refused to disperse. Three fire brigade vehicles were deployed simultaneously, spraying high-pressure water, yet the protest continued. During this, the national president climbed the barricades and raised slogans against the central government. MLA Lakhan Ghanghoria, along with several leaders and a large number of Youth Congress workers, was present at the protest. Police took action and detained over 100 workers, including the Youth Congress national president and state president. Allegations against Central Government regarding Trade Deal Uday Bhanu Chib alleged that the proposed US trade deal would harm farmers and labourers. Calling it against national interest, he said the protest would not remain limited to Madhya Pradesh and would be expanded nationwide. He also raised issues related to inflation, LPG cylinder prices and the central government’s foreign policy.
