‘Raman insisted on going with me. At the school gate, I said, “Best of luck. I hugged him and he left. I never knew it was the last time I would see him. He will never return now.’ Saying this, Sajjan Singh Karada breaks down in tears. His son Raman died on Friday after being attacked by bees. He was a Class 4 student at Swami Vivekananda School in Soyat Kalan in Agar-Malwa district. The child was cremated in the evening at Palasi Son village in Shajapur district. A team visited the village, around 30 kilometres from the district headquarters, and spoke to the boy’s father Sajjan Singh, grandfather Nagji Ram and uncle Arvind Karada. Watching son’s birthday videos on mobile At around 7:30 pm, there is no electricity in Palasi Son village. People are gathered at the platform of the village deity temple in darkness. From a nearby house, the sound of women crying can be heard intermittently. Suddenly, songs like “May you live 100 years…” and “I want to walk holding your finger…” start playing. A man sitting on the platform is seen scrolling through his phone. The songs are playing from there. He is Raman’s father, Sajjan Singh. Showing the phone, he says, “These are videos of my only son. I recorded them on his birthday last year on November 16. Whenever I missed him, I would watch these videos.” “On Friday, he had a maths exam. I dropped him at school. I told him to go with other children, but he insisted on going with me. At the gate, I said ‘Best of luck’, and he replied, ‘Very-very good, Papa.” “He slung his bag over his shoulder and said, ‘Mummy didn’t say best of luck today.’ I gently hugged him.” Doctor said – there is no heartbeat Sajjan Singh said he had returned home within an hour after dropping his son at school and was preparing to go out when he received a call from the school. A teacher informed him that Raman had been stung by bees and taken to hospital. He rushed to the hospital but was told that the child had been referred to Jhalawar in Rajasthan. When he reached there, Raman was lying on the bed surrounded by doctors. A lady doctor informed him that there was no heartbeat. Hearing this, he lost consciousness. The wedding guests haven’t even left yet Sajjan Singh said that just two days before the incident, the family was celebrating a wedding at home. Guests had arrived on April 7 for his niece’s wedding, where Raman danced with everyone. The farewell ceremony took place on April 8, and several guests had still not left. He said that now, instead of celebrations, the same house witnessed a funeral. He added that he had many dreams for his son, but everything ended in a moment. He had himself dropped Raman at school and did not realise it would be the last time he would see him. Grandfather said- He left before the vow to Haridwar could be fulfilled Raman’s grandfather Nagji Ram said that the child’s laughter and voice keep echoing in his mind. He said the family had prayed at several religious places, including Salkanpur, Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar, for the child’s birth and had taken him to those places as well. Only Haridwar remained, which they planned to visit during Sawan this year, but the child passed away before that. He added that Raman had a strong memory of religious texts like the Ramayana and Mahabharata and would often correct others if they made mistakes while narrating them. Raman had said – What will I do with land Nagji Ram said he owns four bighas of land, which he had distributed among his grandsons. When he informed Raman about his share, the child replied that he did not need land and wanted to focus on studies and become a collector. He added that whenever he called Raman, the child would say he was studying and would speak later. Mother lying unconscious near the wedding mandap At the house of Raman’s uncle Arvind, wedding decorations are still visible, with turmeric marks on the walls and mehendi on women’s hands yet to fade. Inside the house, women were seen mourning, while Raman’s mother Rajeshwari lay unconscious among them. She works as a nurse at the government hospital in Soyat Kalan. Family members said that since receiving the news of her son’s death, she has been repeatedly fainting. Had danced a lot with uncle Arvind said that just three days ago, the family was celebrating under the wedding canopy, but now everything feels devastated. He said Raman had expressed a wish to dance with him, and they danced together for a long time. He added that the next day, the child’s mother had to return to duty, and the family left early on April 9. The incident occurred the following day. Arvind alleged that a large beehive inside the school premises indicated serious negligence, and timely action could have prevented the child’s death.
