A major revelation has emerged in the probe by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes into the “Kumbh viral girl” case. The girl, who was presented as an adult at the time of marriage, has been found to be a minor. Records examined during the investigation show she was 16 years and 2 months old when the marriage took place. Her date of birth is recorded as December 30, 2009, confirming that she was underage during the marriage held in Kerala on March 11, 2026. Fake birth certificate used to register marriage The probe found that a fake birth certificate issued by the Maheshwar Municipal Corporation was used to register the marriage in Kerala. Authorities have started the process to cancel the registration. The investigation team led by Antar Singh Arya verified records from Maheshwar Hospital. FIR under POCSO and atrocity act An FIR has been registered against Farman Khan at Maheshwar police station under the POCSO Act and the Atrocity Act. The case was filed on the complaint of the victim’s father. Father alleges deception with film promise The victim’s father said the accused lured his daughter by promising to make her a film star. He allegedly offered her a role of a “Colonel” and claimed she could earn crores. The accused arranged flight tickets from Indore to Kerala and later married her. DGPs of two states summoned The Commission has summoned the DGPs of Kerala and Madhya Pradesh to Delhi on April 22, 2026. Both states have been asked to submit progress reports every three days. The Commission said the case will be closely monitored. Trafficking angle and hotel stay under probe The probe found that the accused and the girl stayed in VIP hotels for nearly three months. The Commission is also examining a possible tribal child trafficking angle. PFI link and foreign funding angle raised Advocate Pratham Dubey raised concerns about possible links with the Popular Front of India and some Kerala-based political figures. He alleged the case could be part of a larger network with possible foreign funding. These claims are under investigation.
