Teachers staged a protest on Wednesday under the banner of the Teachers’ Joint Front, raising a two-point demand. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. The key demands include scrapping the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement and counting service tenure from the date of initial appointment. Rally held, memorandum submitted to administration A large number of teachers gathered at Alkapuri Square and marched in a rally to the Collector’s office. There, they submitted the memorandum to SDM Narendra Singh Yadav, who received it on behalf of the district administration. TET requirement termed unfair for senior teachers Arvind Dixit, a representative of the teachers’ association, stated that making TET mandatory for teachers appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act, 2009 is unjust. He pointed out that many of these teachers have already completed 20 to 26 years of service, and imposing new eligibility conditions at this stage is unfair. Demand to withdraw March 2 order The protesting teachers demanded the immediate withdrawal of the order issued by the Directorate of Public Instruction, Bhopal, on March 2, 2026. They also urged the government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court on the issue and to resolve pending demands related to the new teacher cadre, including counting service from the initial appointment date. Warning of intensified agitation Leaders of the Teachers’ Joint Front warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, the protest will be intensified. As part of the statewide movement, memorandums will be submitted at the block level on April 11. A large-scale protest is planned in Bhopal on April 18, with more than one lakh teachers expected to participate. Large participation in protest Several office bearers, including Rakesh Nayak, Arvind Dixit, Rajesh Mishra, Himmat Singh Yadav, Devendra Dubey, and Rajeev Pathak, along with hundreds of teachers, participated in the demonstration.
