Adani CNG prices have seen a steep increase of ₹1.50 per kg today (April 3). After a reduction of ₹1.21 in CNG prices, with 3 subsequent increases, CNG has become ₹2.60 more expensive, bringing the new price to ₹83.77. Earlier in February 2026, there was an increase of 50 paise. It is noteworthy that Adani Group had reduced CNG prices at the beginning of 2026, but after that, for the third consecutive time in four months, CNG prices have seen an increase. Price hike to directly affect auto-rickshaw drivers This price hike will bring great hardship to auto-rickshaw drivers, as after 2025, the year 2026 is also becoming a year of inflation. In 2025, Adani CNG prices were increased four times. Now it continues in 2026 as well. The four-time price increase in 2025 was ₹3.40. So at the beginning of 2026, after one reduction first and two increases, Adani CNG price has now reached at a record level. Currently, due to the Iran-Israel war, a gas crisis has spread across the world. Amidst this, a gas crisis is being witnessed in many countries. Due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, gas supply is not reaching. On the other hand, people are turning towards PNG. Commercial gas prices have skyrocketed. In this situation, the price hike in Adani CNG can now prove to be backbreaking. In this situation, people now have to bear the increase in prices of many items from April 1. We strongly oppose the price increase: Association President Ahmedabad Rickshaw Drivers Association President Vijay Makvana stated, “Over the past considerable time, there has been a gradual but significant increase in CNG prices, which is directly impacting rickshaw drivers”. He added, “The main livelihood of rickshaw drivers depends on CNG, and we know well what difficulties arise even with a one rupee increase. We strongly oppose this price increase. Our request to the government and the system is that a check should be placed on the Adani company”. ‘The question is whether to run rickshaws on petrol or CNG’ Furthermore, Vijay Makvana added, “The overnight price increases prove to be backbreaking for rickshaw drivers. A rickshaw driver uses four to five kilos of gas daily, so even a one rupee price increase proves to be backbreaking for rickshaw drivers. Our demand is that the price increase be rolled back to provide relief to rickshaw drivers. CNG prices have reached equivalent to petrol, so now the question has arisen whether to run rickshaws on petrol or on CNG”. When we increase fares, passengers are not willing to sit: Kishanbhai Rickshaw driver Kishanbhai said, “On one hand business is not available and on the other hand prices have been increased, due to which we are facing a lot of difficulty. Our demand is that the CNG price increase should be reduced. If we also increase fares, then no passenger is willing to sit in the rickshaw. Currently there is no business and when prices have been increased on the other side, there will be a lot of difficulty”. Even loose change is not returned at gas pumps: Chandravadan Panchal Rickshaw driver Chandravadan Panchal stated, “It’s not just me alone, but all rickshaw drivers are going to face difficulties. The Adani company has been continuously increasing prices for the last ten months. Yesterday they increased the price by one and a half rupees. In the last 6 months, the price has been increased by five to six rupees”. He further added, “Even loose change is not returned at gas pumps. When we ask passengers for higher fares, we face conflicts. We now have only one option left, which is to shut down the rickshaws and submit them to the government and RTO. After which we will have to demand employment from the government. If auto-rickshaw drivers stop filling CNG, Adani’s pumps will shut down: Chelabhai Chelabhai stated, “Adani’s pumps are running because of auto-rickshaw drivers. CNG has now started coming in cars. If auto-rickshaw drivers stop filling CNG, Adani’s pumps will shut down. Rather than gradually increasing prices, it would be better to stab and kill us. Increase the price by one rupee all at once or kill us if you want to increase prices this way. Our demand is that CNG prices should be reduced”.
