Madhya Pradesh government has approved the implementation of the fourth time-scale (fourth career progression) for school education department teachers, offering significant financial relief. Orders have been issued by the General Administration Department, enabling teachers to receive an additional pay scale upon completing 35 years of service—over and above benefits already granted after 12, 24, and 30 years. 1.5 lakh teachers to benefit The decision is expected to directly benefit around 1.5 lakh teachers across the state. Eligible teachers are likely to receive arrears ranging from approximately ₹1.25 lakh to ₹1.8 lakh. The revised pay scale will be considered effective from July 1, 2023. Relief for teachers without promotions The move is particularly beneficial for teachers who could not secure promotions despite long years of service. Under the new provision, such teachers will now receive higher pay scales through time-bound career progression. The benefit will extend to primary, middle, and higher secondary teachers, depending on their respective positions. Higher pay level after 35 years According to the General Administration Department, teachers completing 35 years of service will be eligible for a higher pay level, resulting in an increase in their salaries. The proposal has also received approval from the Finance Department. Announced on Teacher’s Day The scheme was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. Following cabinet approval, the decision has now been formally implemented. ₹117 crore financial burden on state Teachers who had completed 35 years of service by July 1, 2023, will receive arrears accordingly. Those completing the tenure between 2023 and 2026 will get arrears from their respective eligibility dates. The decision is expected to impose an additional financial burden of around ₹117 crore on the state government.
