Cricket fans in Bangladesh will not be able to watch IPL 2026 broadcast in their country after JioStar terminated its deal with the local broadcaster over a payment dispute. Not very long ago did Bangladesh lift its ban on IPL broadcast, as was announced by Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan. Bangladesh’s interim government earlier had imposed a ban on IPL broadcast in the country after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad last year. This move by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had snowballed into a major controversy, which eventually saw Bangladesh withdraw from the T20 World Cup in India. IPL broadcast suspended in Bangladesh Despite Bangladesh’s new government taking a U-turn on the decision and lifting the IPL ban, the fans will still not be able to watch the tournament in their country after JioStar scrapped its deal with local broadcaster TSports. Despite obtaining a sublicense of IPL media rights from 2023-27, T Sports won’t be able to provide broadcast of the tournament in Bangladesh for failing to make timely payments. Citing “continued failure and default in adhering to the payment timelines stipulated under the agreement,” of the local broadcaster, JioStar scrapped the deal. “The agreement stands terminated with immediate effect,” a part of JioStar’s letter stated, as per Reuters. The same is applicable to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) broadcast in Bangladesh, which also stands suspended. Despite security assurances from the International Cricket Council (ICC), Bangladesh refused to change their stance on boycotting the T20 World Cup in India and were eventually replaced by Scotland. Asif Nazrul, who was Bangladesh’s sports advisor in their interim government, later took a U-turn, citing that the players boycotted the tournament in India.
