In a major reform for government recruitment, Madhya Pradesh is set to introduce a single examination system for hiring across more than 10 departments. A committee chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Jain has approved the proposal for a Joint Recruitment Examination 2025. Under the new system, the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (ESB) will conduct three qualifying exams annually, while the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) will hold five exams. The proposal is awaiting cabinet approval and is likely to be implemented from April. If cleared, around 14,000 Group A to D posts and 30,000 teaching and diploma-level posts will be filled through this system in 2026. Why the change? Key flaws in current system The government has introduced the “one category, one exam” formula to address several issues: ESB system: Three exams, two-year validity Under the new rules, ESB will conduct only qualifying examinations to assess candidates and issue a scorecard valid for two years. Departments will then recruit candidates based on these scores. Three categories of ESB exams New ESB rules MPPSC to conduct combined exams The MPPSC will now conduct combined competitive exams instead of separate notifications. All departments must submit vacancy details to the commission by September 30 each year, ensuring streamlined recruitment planning. Major reform: Direct interview provision A key change allows faster recruitment for posts with fewer applicants: If applications are less than 500 or less than three times the number of vacancies, MPPSC can skip the written exam. Two options: Final selection will be based on interview performance, speeding up recruitment for low-application posts.
