A slab of an under-construction building collapsed on Friday near AIIMS Bhopal, injuring around eight people standing below. The incident occurred in front of the hospital, where a four-storey building for a medical store was under construction. According to the information, at the time of the accident, patients visiting AIIMS and their attendants had gathered at the medical store to purchase medicines when the slab suddenly fell. Casualties and Medical condition All eight injured were taken to AIIMS Bhopal: Among them, 23-year-old Nandini is reported to be in critical condition. She has been admitted to the Trauma Block (Red Triage), with deep injuries caused by an iron angle. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition. An additional three floors were being added above it. The portion that collapsed reportedly extended outward significantly and fell onto a shed below, causing it to cave in as well. Questions raised over illegal construction Following the incident, a large crowd gathered at the site. Locals alleged that parts of the construction were illegal and demanded action from the municipal corporation. Investigation likely Authorities are expected to investigate the structural integrity of the building and examine whether safety norms were violated during construction.
