power-shortage-reduced-by-97%-compared-to-shivraj’s-era:358-million-unit-power-deficit-reduced-to-9-mu-in-mohan-govt

A major update has emerged regarding the power supply in Madhya Pradesh. According to the latest central government data, under Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s tenure, the state is achieving significant progress towards ‘Zero Power Cut’. Compared to Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s tenure, power shortage in the state has now almost ended. This was asked by Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) MP AA Rahim from Kerala. He had sought the government’s response regarding power availability and load shedding in urban and rural areas. Shivraj vs Mohan Raj: Big change in numbers According to the report presented in the Rajya Sabha, the speed at which Madhya Pradesh has bridged the gap between power demand and supply in the last three years is surprising. Shivraj Singh Chouhan Era (2022-23): During this period, the state needed 92,325 million units of electricity throughout the year. However, compared to demand, there was a shortage of 358 million units of electricity. This deficit was 0.4%, which resulted in load shedding or unannounced power cuts in many areas. Dr. Mohan Yadav Era (2025-26): Current financial year figures (until January 2026) show that the electricity shortage has now reduced to just 9 million units. The surprising fact is that compared to the Shivraj era, there has been more than 97% reduction in power shortage. Now the electricity deficit in the state has technically reached 0.0% level. Demand increased, yet supply is full During Shivraj’s era (2022-23), the electricity demand was about 92 thousand units, which increased to 1,04,445 million units during Mohan Yadav’s tenure (2024-25). Despite a heavy 13% increase in demand, the power deficit decreased instead of increasing. Record lighting in villages In 2014, when villages used to get only 12.5 hours of electricity, it has now increased to an average of 22.6 hours during the Mohan Yadav government. This means the electricity gap between villages and cities has almost been eliminated. Why does electricity go out now? The government has clarified that there is no shortage of electricity in the state now. If your house still experiences power cuts, it is not due to an electricity shortage, but due to technical reasons at the local level, such as broken wires, faulty transformers, or maintenance.
