If there is a gas pipeline near your house and you haven’t taken a PNG connection, your LPG cylinder supply will be stopped in the next 3 months. In view of the ongoing war in the West Asia and gas shortage, the central government has implemented the ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026’. Under this, taking a piped gas (PNG) connection will now be mandatory. However, a notice will be given first. If someone doesn’t take a connection even after receiving the notice, their LPG supply will be stopped after 90 days. Also, societies will have to give pipeline approval within 3 days. 4 Key Points of the New Rule 1. Society must give approval within 3 days Many times pipeline work would stop due to opposition from housing societies or RWA (Resident Welfare Association). This will not happen now. 2. Small areas will get approval in 10 days Government departments are no longer allowed to hold up files for laying pipelines. 3. Double compensation for the landowner for the pipeline If a pipeline passes through someone’s private land, cases will not drag on for years regarding compensation. The government has created a fixed formula for this: 4. Is this for your safety and savings? The government has issued a new order under the ‘Essential Commodities Act’ to ensure that you don’t face a shortage of cooking gas even in war-like situations. PNG connection holders will not get LPG cylinder The government had issued new rules regarding PNG connection on March 14. Under this, if you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection at your home, you will now have to surrender your LPG cylinder. According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will their old cylinder be refilled. The government has already issued new rules regarding LPG cylinder supply 4 times before this. 3 Big Questions for Users Question: Do I need to return the cylinder now? Answer: No, not now. The 3-month countdown will begin after the pipeline becomes active in your area and you receive a notice. Question: Is PNG cheaper than cylinder? Answer: Generally, PNG billing is based on usage and is considered cheaper and safer compared to LPG. Question: What if pipeline connection is technically not possible at my house? Answer: In such a situation, your LPG supply will not be discontinued. This rule applies only to houses where pipeline connection is possible.
