If gas pipeline has reached your area, the LPG cylinder coming to your home may be discontinued in the next three months. Given the ongoing war in West Asia and gas shortage, the Central Government has implemented the ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026’. Under this, it will now be mandatory to take a piped gas (PNG) connection. If someone does not take a connection even after receiving notification, their LPG supply will be stopped after 90 days. Additionally, societies will have to approve pipeline installation within 3 days. Understand 4 rules of the new act 1. End of arbitrary decisions by societies and RWAs Many times pipeline work would stop due to opposition from housing societies or RWA (Resident Welfare Association). This will not happen now. 2. Small areas will get approval in 10 days Government departments are no longer allowed to delay files for laying pipelines. 3. End of land and compensation hassles If the pipeline passes through someone’s private land, cases won’t drag on for years regarding compensation. The government has created a fixed formula based on circle rates. If the landowner doesn’t agree, the District Collector will intervene to move the work forward so that supply is not delayed. 4. Is this for your safety and savings? The government has issued this under the ‘Essential Commodities Act’, so that you don’t face a shortage of cooking gas even in war-like situations. PNG connection holders will not get LPG cylinder The government had issued new rules regarding PNG connections on March 14. Under this, if you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection at your home, you will now have to surrender your LPG cylinder. According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will their old cylinder be refilled. The government has already issued new rules regarding LPG cylinder supply 4 times before this. Government has now taken these steps regarding the LPG crisis 3 Big Questions for Users Question: Do I need to return the cylinder now? Answer: No, not yet. The 3-month countdown will begin after the pipeline becomes active in your area and you receive a notice. Question: Is PNG cheaper than cylinder? Answer: Generally, PNG billing is based on usage and it is considered cheaper and safer compared to LPG. Question: What if pipeline connection is technically not feasible at my home? Answer: In such cases, your LPG supply will not be discontinued. This rule applies only to homes where pipeline connection is possible.
