infertility-test-reveals-xy-chromosomes-in-woman:truth-surfaces-2-years-after-marriage;-defense-officer-husband-says,-‘i-will-stand-by-her-for-life’

A shocking medical case has come to light in Bhopal, where a defence officer discovered an unexpected truth about his wife during infertility treatment. The couple, who had an arranged marriage in 2023, sought medical help after two years of not having children. During investigations, doctors found that the woman did not have the typical XX chromosomes seen in females but XY chromosomes, which are usually found in males. Although she appeared completely normal externally, her body had underdeveloped testicles instead of ovaries. The couple later approached specialists at AIIMS Bhopal, where the condition was treated through a two-stage surgery. Throughout the process, the husband remained by his wife’s side and chose to continue their life together. Test reveals shocking genetic truth Abnormality revealed in MRI scan Detailed examination and MRI at AIIMS revealed that in the lower abdomen of the woman, where ovaries are normally present, underdeveloped testes were found. These testes were almost inactive, due to which the testosterone level in the body was very low. This was why blood tests appeared normal, and the problem could not be detected earlier. Woman never had periods The woman had never had menstruation. Due to lack of awareness, the family and the woman herself kept believing that periods would start with age. In the initial period, some treatment was also done for this problem, but the medicines had no effect, because the ovaries were not present in the body. AIIMS’ multidisciplinary team provided treatment Husband did not leave her side The most significant aspect of this case is that the defence officer stood by his wife in every situation. He not only mentally prepared her for the treatment but also ensured she did not break down or slip into depression during this difficult phase. The officer accepted his wife as she is, and the couple decided to spend their lives together as husband and wife. Doctors said it is not possible for them to have children naturally in this situation. The surgeon added that the couple has decided to adopt a child in the future. According to him, the case is not only related to medical science but also serves as an inspiring example of understanding, sensitivity, and the strength of relationships. More than 10 surgeries every month According to Dr. Abhinav Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, AIIMS Bhopal, a special transgender clinic is being operated here for such cases. A large number of patients visit here for consultation every month, but only about 10 to 12 of them undergo surgery. In such cases, about 60 percent of cases involve male-to-female and approximately 40 percent involve female-to-male transitions. This ratio may also change over time. According to Dr. Abhinav Singh, Assistant Professor in the Burn and Plastic Department at AIIMS Bhopal, the number of such patients has been continuously increasing in recent years. The main reasons for this are increasing awareness among people and trust in AIIMS Bhopal. Dr. Abhinav stated that such surgeries are very expensive in private hospitals. At AIIMS, it is available at a lower cost. Counselling necessary, along with surgery At AIIMS Bhopal, not only are surgeries performed, but extensive counselling is also provided to patients and their families. Doctors help them understand and accept their condition. Along with this, hormone therapy is used to develop the body internally in accordance with the chosen identity. Experts say that with timely diagnosis, treatment, and social support, such patients can live a normal and dignified life.
