Sending a non-vegetarian dish instead of a vegetarian one in Satna has cost Domino’s Pizza restaurant dearly. The District Consumer Commission, while pronouncing its verdict on Saturday, has imposed a fine of Rs 8 lakh on Domino’s Pizza restaurant (Jubilant FoodWorks Limited) located on Rewa Road. This amount, along with 9 percent interest, must be paid within one month. The bench of Commission President S.C. Upadhyay and members Umesh Giri and Vidya Pandey has also directed the company to pay Rs 10,000 as litigation costs to the complainant couple. This decision came after a complaint in which the couple alleged that non-vegetarian food was served. Non-veg sent instead of veg on Diwali day This entire incident is from October 31, 2024, the day of Diwali. Satna residents Suraj Tiwari and his wife Nancy Tiwari had ordered Korean Paneer Tikka Bread from Domino’s Pizza Center. The complainant’s advocate, Karunesh Arora, stated that the couple and all members of their family are lifelong vegetarians and have never consumed non-vegetarian food. On the occasion of Diwali, the family was busy with religious activities and all members were sitting together and having a meal. They consumed Korean Paneer Tikka Garlic Bread. During this time, Suraj Tiwari became suspicious. He looked closely and found that there was meat inside the Korean Paneer Tikka Garlic Bread, which left all family members stunned. The family immediately took pictures of the food item and contacted the restaurant, but they did not receive any satisfactory response. Subsequently, a legal notice was first sent by the applicant, and then a complaint was filed with the District Consumer Commission. The Consumer Commission considered the company’s arguments In its argument, the company stated that the applicant presented a blurry picture, which does not prove their claim. The company also argued that they have separate packaging facilities for vegetarian and non-vegetarian products. The company, calling the applicant’s complaint false, misleading, and unsubstantiated, had requested its dismissal, which the commission rejected and fined the company 8 lakh rupees. Now the company will have to pay this amount within 1 month.
