₹180-crore-tender-to-clear-way-for-action:cameras-worth-₹8.21-crore-installed,-signage-missing;-no-wrong-side-challans-yet

Four months after 410 CCTV cameras were installed to improve traffic management in the city, no action has been taken against wrong-side drivers. The cameras were set up in October under the Smart City project worth Rs 8.21 crore. Internet connection and data feeding were also completed, but the challan process could not begin. The main reason is the absence of proper indicators and road markings on one-way routes. Although cameras were installed on identified one-way roads, officials failed to ensure that clear signage and markings were in place. This negligence in planning has delayed enforcement. Now, the Municipal Corporation has floated a tender worth Rs 1.80 crore to install signage, carry out road markings and organise road parking on these routes. However, the work has not started yet, and action against traffic violators remains on hold. These cameras on the city’s major designated routes will play a crucial role in crime and traffic control in the city. For this system, the police had identified 58 locations and provided them to Smart City. With this system, no vehicle will be able to go on the wrong side from anywhere; these cameras were installed in October. Police are using these cameras to control wrong-side vehicles as well as to track the route of criminals after criminal incidents. Smart City Development Corporation has installed 410 bullet and PTZ cameras (Pan Tilt Zoom cameras) at 107 locations in the city and has also fed internet and data into them. The company will also maintain these cameras for 5 years. Negligence of three departments, who did not fulfil their responsibility
CCTV cameras started working, also provided clues to the robbery from a hawala collection agent
The company installing the cameras was given a target to complete the project by December 31. The company claims that the cameras have been installed and all technical work including internet and data has been completed. Two days ago, footage of the culprits in a robbery case in the Kampu area was also obtained from these cameras. 107 locations were decided for the cameras, out of which the police department installed cameras at 58 locations, the municipal corporation at 30 locations, and Smart City at 19 locations.
Challans can start after signage is installed
The work of installing CCTV cameras has been completed. The cameras are working. Footage was also provided to the police in a case from Kampu. Action against wrong-side vehicles has not started due to the absence of signage on one-way routes. The Municipal Corporation is getting this work done, soon cameras will start taking action against wrong-side vehicles.
