A single-judge bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, led by Justice D.D. Bansal, has taken a strict stance on unfilled posts reserved for persons with disabilities. On Friday, the court issued a show-cause notice to Sanjay Shukla, Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), and Anurag Verma, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Warehousing and Logistics Corporation (MPWLC), seeking their explanation. The next hearing has been scheduled for 15 April. During the proceedings, the High Court asked the state government why, despite earlier orders, vacancies reserved for the differently-abled across various departments remain unfilled. The court also directed that the compliance status of instructions issued on 30 January 2024 be clarified. Court had given directions to fill posts The matter was raised by Rajendra Mehra, a disabled candidate from Narsinghpur, who filed a petition stating that nearly 22,000 posts reserved for persons with disabilities across state departments have remained vacant for a long time. Earlier, the court had issued orders directing the government to fill these vacancies. Lawyer said – Officers are committing contempt During the hearing, the court noted that the state government had been given a six-month deadline to comply. However, the petitioner’s side argued that officials were deliberately ignoring the court’s orders. The petitioner’s lawyer, Shivam Tripathi, termed the matter as one of contempt and stated that the court had instructed the Chief Secretary and other officials to submit their responses by 15 April.
