The government of Madhya Pradesh, which promotes farming as a profitable business, is facing losses in some of its own agricultural farms. Out of 46 government-run farms across the state, 9 are running at a loss. The government says these losses are due to weather-dependent farming and adverse weather conditions. A shortage of natural and human resources on these farms is also contributing to the problem. Minister of Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, Edal Singh Kansana, shared this information in a written reply to MLA Rajan Mandloi. He added that the high prices of seeds and other farming materials also reduce profits. The extent of the losses is clear from individual farms. In the Jitni farm of Rewa district, the government spent Rs 26.91 lakh on farming in 2024-25, but earned only Rs 1.52 lakh. Similarly, the Chached farm in Bhopal district spent Rs 42.50 lakh, while earning just Rs 17.85 lakh. Agricultural farms are present in these districts of the state In the state, there are government agricultural farms in Tijni, Farhadi in Rewa district, Gahwara in Satna district, Samda in Sidhi, Birhulia, Shahgarh in Shahdol, Manpur in Umaria, Jabera in Damoh. Farming is done here by the government. Similarly, government agricultural farms are present in Naogaon in Chhatarpur district, Bhaiswahi, Ajaygarh in Panna, Nadghat in Jabalpur, Bhaumakatia in Seoni, Detakhari in Chhindwara, Chiraidongri in Mandla, Narsinghpur and Bohani in Narsinghpur. Besides these, there are agricultural farms in Piparjiri, Kinhi, Garhi and Barasivni in Balaghat district, Dindori in Dindori, Chandrakeshar in Dewas, Girwar in Shajapur, Pached in Ratlam, Mahagarh in Neemuch, Mahuakheda in Gwalior, and Antri. These are used by the Agriculture Department. There are also agricultural farms in Gajora, Rannod in Shivpuri district, Gohad in Bhind, Jaura in Morena, Jobat in Alirajpur, Alirajpur, Naogaon in Dhar, Bhikangaon in Khargone, and Satrathi. Agricultural farms are operational in Fanda, Chached in Bhopal district, Rehti in Sehore, Anori Berkhedi, Silwani in Raisen, Sarangpur in Rajgarh, Gudgaon in Betul, Pantalai in Harda, and Pawarkheda in Narmadapuram. These agricultural farms have been continuously running at a loss since 2020-21 Information provided by the Agriculture Department states that the agricultural farms at Kinhi in Balaghat district, Girwar in Shajapur district, Mahua Kheda in Gwalior district, Rannod in Shivpuri district, Satrathi in Khargone district, and Chached in Bhopal district are running at a loss. In response to information sought in the Assembly regarding loss-making agricultural farms, these farms were reported to be running at a loss, with details of their income and expenditure over five years provided. Congress MLA Mandloi had asked questions In the Assembly, Congress MLA Rajan Mandloi had sought information through a written question regarding how many government agricultural farms are operating in Madhya Pradesh and where. Has the income from these farms been less compared to the expenditure incurred on them in the last five years? If yes, from which farms is the income decreasing? What are the reasons for this decrease in income? For what reasons is the plan to sell which of the government agricultural farms proposed? In response, Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Edal Singh Kanshana, while providing information about the loss-making agricultural farms, stated that there is no plan to sell any farm.
