A case has been registered against Amitabh Bachchan for referring to Nagda in Madhya Pradesh as a village during the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). The episode aired on 23 December 2025 sparked controversy when Bachchan described Nagda as a small village struggling with water scarcity, leading to local objections. A complaint has been lodged at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Nagda. The court accepted the complaint, directed that it be entered into the Case Information System (CIS), and requested a report from the concerned police station. Under normal procedure, any civil or criminal case presented in court is registered in the CIS. The petition is then considered officially accepted. The next hearing is scheduled for 9 April 2026. CEO of Sony Pictures Network also party to case Local resident and lawyer Laxman Sundra has filed an application seeking criminal registration not only against Amitabh Bachchan but also against Gaurav Banerjee, CEO of Sony Pictures Network India. The court will decide further action after the next hearing. Accused of Tarnishing City’s Image Lawyers Rajesh Mandwaria (Alot) and Deepmala Avana (Nagda), representing the complainants, said that the show gave misleading information about Nagda in a nationally broadcast programme, harming the city’s image. Lawyer Jaina Shree Mal added that the portrayal of Nagda as a small, water-strapped village was factually incorrect. Nagda’s Identity and Claims The complaint notes that Nagda is a major railway junction in the Malwa region with a population exceeding 150,000. It is recognised as a developed industrial town. The petition also mentions that former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced plans to make Nagda a district on three occasions.
