In a major crackdown ahead of the Holi festival, the Food Safety Administration in Indore shut down a sweet manufacturing unit in Palda after finding gulab jamuns being prepared in unhygienic conditions and without a valid licence. Around 1,600 kilograms of gulab jamun were seized during the action. The raid was carried out at Satguru Foods located in Khandelwal Compound, Udyog Nagar, Palda. Filthy premises, no licence found During the surprise inspection at Satguru Foods, proprietor Vishal Udasi was found operating the unit. Officials said ‘Shahi Gulab Jamun’ was being manufactured in extremely unhygienic surroundings. Raw materials were stored directly on the floor without pallets, no pest control records were available, and no medical fitness certificates were found for workers. Employees were seen working without head caps, and there was no water testing report available for the water used in food preparation. Most importantly, officials confirmed that the establishment did not possess a valid food licence to manufacture sweets. Two samples of Shahi Gulab Jamun were collected for laboratory testing. Approximately 1,600 kg of the sweet stock was seized. The unit has been ordered to remain closed until necessary improvements are made and all legal formalities are completed. Collected samples from other places as well In a separate operation, a team collected a sample of namkeen from Jai Namkeen in Pipliya Rao area and issued cleanliness instructions to the proprietor Sanjay Goyal. A third team inspected Rajkamal Bhojanalaya on Ranjit Hanuman Temple Road. Officials found disorganised storage of food materials and documentation gaps. Samples of paneer and flour were collected for testing, and improvement notices were issued. Samples sent for testing All collected samples have been sent to a laboratory under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Further legal action will be initiated based on the analysis report. Collector Shivam Verma said ensuring safe and quality food for consumers remains the district administration’s top priority. He added that strict action against adulteration and food safety violations will continue in the coming days.
