Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday, 20 February 2026, that India and the US are likely to sign an interim trade agreement in March, which may become effective from the subsequent month of April. He also said that India’s free trade agreements (FTAs) with the UK and Oman are likely to be implemented in April and that with New Zealand in September. A three-day meeting between Indian and American officials to finalise the legal text for the interim trade agreement will begin in the US on 23 February. Earlier this month, both the countries released a joint statement to announce that a framework for an interim trade agreement was finalised.
