Bangladesh’s new Sports Minister, Aminul Haque, wants to improve relations with the BCCI and India. He said that he wants to resolve this issue quickly. He mentioned Bangladesh’s non-participation in the current T20 World Cup. After the new cabinet of Bangladesh took oath following the general elections, Haque said, “After taking the oath, I met India’s Deputy High Commissioner at the Parliament Building. I spoke to him about the T20 World Cup. It was a good conversation. I told him that we want to resolve this issue quickly through dialogue because we want to maintain friendly relations with all our neighbouring countries.” In this T20 World Cup, Bangladesh was scheduled to play its matches in Mumbai and Kolkata. However, citing security reasons, the team refused to tour India. Following this, the ICC decided to include Scotland in the tournament instead of Bangladesh. Why Bangladesh refused to play in India? 1. In protest against the continuous killings of Hindus in Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman removed from the IPL. BCB protested this. 2. Mustafizur’s removal was made an issue by political parties in Bangladesh. Then the Yunus government banned IPL broadcasts in its country. Following this, the cricket board demanded not to play the World Cup in India, which ICC rejected. Concern for players’ safety in India – Nazrul Former Sports Minister of Bangladesh government, Asif Nazrul, had refused to send the national team to India. He had said, ‘We want to play the World Cup, but there are concerns about the safety of our players and support staff in India. Controversy over Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from IPL Due to the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh, BCCI did not allow Mustafizur Rahman to play in the IPL. He was dropped from the team by KKR on January 3 at the behest of BCCI. Angered by this, the Bangladesh government banned the broadcast of IPL matches in its country. Following this, citing the safety of players, they also demanded a change of venue for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start on February 7. KKR had bought Mustafizur for ₹9.2 crore On December 16, in the IPL mini-auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had bought Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman for ₹9.20 crore. Following this, Mustafizur started facing opposition in India due to the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh. So far, 7 Hindus have been killed there. Later, BCCI did not allow Mustafizur to play in the IPL, and on January 3, KKR released him.
