The government of Madhya Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, presented the state’s Economic Survey for 2026–27 in the Assembly on Tuesday, just ahead of its third budget. The report outlines the state’s economic performance, showing a rise in per capita income, stable GDP growth, increased milk production, declining egg consumption, and moderate job creation over five years. Per capita income up, GDP growth stable According to the Economic Survey, the average annual per capita income in Madhya Pradesh has increased to ₹169,050 in the financial year 2025–26, compared to ₹154,124 the previous year — a rise of nearly 10%. The state’s GDP growth rate has seen a marginal increase of 0.09 percentage points, rising from 11.05% last year to 11.14% this year. This indicates steady economic progress, although accelerating growth remains a challenge. ₹48,000 crore investment in one year The report claims the state attracted investments worth ₹48,000 crore over the past year, generating employment opportunities for more than 80,000 people. Over the last five years: Milk production rises, egg output falls Animal husbandry continues to play a key role in the rural economy. The survey reports: Per capita milk availability has reached 707 grams per day, significantly above the national average. Officials attribute this improvement to agreements with the National Dairy Development Board and livestock development initiatives. However, egg production and consumption have declined. Egg output has fallen by approximately 8%, and per capita annual availability has dropped from 40 eggs to 35 eggs, marking a 12.5% decline. This decline is notable at a time when eggs are being promoted nationally as an affordable source of protein. Drop in school dropout rates, especially among girls The Economic Survey highlights progress in education. The overall school dropout rate has fallen by 25% compared to last year. Notably, the number of girls leaving school has decreased by 34%. In 2025: The government has also decided to establish Sandipani Schools to improve the education system. The decline in female dropout rates is seen as a positive social indicator. Fluctuations in Kanya Vivah scheme The number of beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Vivah Yojana (mass marriage scheme) has shown sharp fluctuations in recent years. The government has increased the scheme’s budget by ₹450 crore compared to last year. Overall economic outlook The survey presents a mixed but largely stable economic picture for Madhya Pradesh. While income levels and investment inflows have improved and school dropout rates have declined, concerns remain over slower job growth relative to investment and declining egg production. The report sets the tone for the state’s upcoming budget, highlighting both achievements and challenges for the government moving forward.
