rajasthan-royals-want-gautam-gambhir-as-partner,-mentor-ceo:why-india’s-head-coach-can’t-take-the-ipl-role-till-2027?

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly received a major offer from IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. Reportedly, one of the new investors in the franchise has approached Gambhir with a powerful proposal. The offer includes the roles of partner, mentor, and CEO within the franchise. In addition to these positions, Gambhir has also reportedly been offered a 2 to 3 percent equity stake in the team. At present, Rajasthan Royals is going through ownership changes. Reports suggest that many of the current shareholders are selling their stakes to new investors, and the deal is currently in the transfer process. BCCI rules prevent immediate acceptance However, Gambhir cannot accept this offer right now. He is currently serving as the Head Coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Under the Lodha Committee recommendations approved by the Supreme Court, a person cannot hold official roles with both Team India and any IPL franchise at the same time. This rule clearly prevents Gambhir from taking up any position with Rajasthan Royals while working with the national team. Sources close to Gambhir have said that he is fully committed to his current role. His contract with the BCCI runs until the end of the 2027 ODI World Cup. For now, he will continue focusing only on Team India. Strong IPL record after retirement for KKR After retiring from international cricket, Gambhir has remained very active in the IPL. He served as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2022 and 2023. Under his guidance, the team reached the playoffs in both seasons. Later, in 2024, he joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a key role and helped the franchise win their third IPL title. His leadership and planning were widely praised. Focus on T20 World Cup 2026 Currently, Gambhir is busy with Team India’s T20 World Cup campaign. India has started strongly, winning three consecutive group matches. The team has already reached the Super-8 stage and will play against the Netherlands on Wednesday. For now, Gambhir’s full attention remains on guiding India, while the future with Rajasthan Royals may only be possible after his national team contract ends in 2027.
