A 75-year-old priest was brutally killed in the Kusmi area of Sidhi district on Sunday morning. He was attacked with a sharp weapon while returning home after offering prayers on Mahashivratri. The deceased has been identified as Indrabhan Dwivedi, the priest of the Hanuman temple located inside the tehsil complex. Police said he was riding his moped at around 8 am when the incident took place. According to eyewitnesses, the accused suddenly attacked the moving moped, causing the priest to fall on the road. People nearby could not understand what was happening at first. Within seconds, the attacker, identified as 55-year-old Lala Kewat, allegedly placed his foot on the priest’s chest and slit his throat with a sharp weapon. Police said there were eight deep injuries on his chest and neck. The priest lay on the road in a pool of blood and died on the spot. After the attack, the accused tried to escape, but local people chased and caught him. As news of the murder spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene. Police reached the spot, took the accused into custody and brought him to the police station. He is being questioned, and further investigation is underway.
