After visiting Mahakal, five pilgrims from Jabalpur were on their way to Khatu Shyam when their journey turned tragic. Early on Saturday, on the Kota-Jaipur National Highway (NH-52) near Chaksu, a car ran into a trailer ahead. The collision was so severe that the car was completely smashed, and four people, including a female teacher, died on the spot. Another man succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital. The deceased include Reshma Srivastava (55), a teacher at the Government Railway School in Jabalpur’s Nakshatra Nagar, driver Anurag Rajak (25), and Rahul Rajak, Piyush Rai, and Shanu. The four men were residents of the Madhotal-Karmeta area, while Reshma was from Sadar. Bodies badly trapped in the vehicle According to Chaksu police station, the accident occurred near Tigriya turn around 5:30 AM. Preliminary investigation revealed that the car crashed into the trailer because the driver dozed off. The collision was so severe that the bodies got badly trapped in the vehicle. On 12 February, the group traveled by car to Ujjain to visit Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. On the night of 13 February, they departed for Khatu Shyamji in Sikar. No one anticipated that this would be their final journey. It was reported that initially the family had advised Piyush against joining. Later, Reshma convinced his mother to allow him to accompany the group. Early Saturday morning, Rajasthan police informed the family of the tragedy, leaving them devastated. Daughter hasn’t been told the truth yet Reshma’s eldest daughter, Palak, has been told only that her mother is injured and is yet to be informed that her mother has passed away. Reshma’s husband, Akhilesh Srivastava, retired from LIC last year. The family has two daughters. News of the accident stunned local communities in Madhotal, Karmeta, and Sadar. Family members have already left for Rajasthan. Residents are shocked — the five pilgrims who set out on a sacred journey will never return.
