prosecution-decision-today-in-vijay-shah-case:report-to-be-submitted-after-cm-approval;-final-clearance-awaited-from-bjp-central-leadership-in-delhi

The Madhya Pradesh government is likely to take a decision today on granting prosecution sanction against Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah, following directions from the Supreme Court. The decision will be placed before the court after approval from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, while the state also awaits a final go-ahead from the BJP’s central leadership in Delhi. CM consults central leaders, legal experts in Delhi Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday held discussions in Delhi with senior party leaders and constitutional experts regarding the matter. Sources indicate that further deliberations may take place after the CM returns to Delhi from Uttarakhand, following which the state government’s response will be submitted to the Supreme Court. Government weighing all aspects Officials said the government is examining all legal and political aspects of the case and has kept the central leadership informed of the developments. Since the issue involves a prosecution sanction against a sitting cabinet minister, final approval must come directly from the Chief Minister. Supreme Court deadline and Upcoming hearing On January 19, the Supreme Court directed the Madhya Pradesh government to decide on the pending prosecution sanction within two weeks, based on the SIT’s investigation report. That deadline expired on February 2, though no final decision has yet been taken. According to government sources, the matter is scheduled for a hearing in the Supreme Court on February 9. The court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) had submitted its final report to the state government six months ago, confirming the allegations and recommending prosecution sanction. Controversial statement during public event The case stems from a controversial statement made by Vijay Shah on May 11 last year during a public event in Raikunda village of Mhow, Indore district. While referring to Operation Sindoor, Shah made objectionable remarks targeting the Indian Army and Colonel Sofia Qureshi, which triggered widespread criticism and legal action.
