The Congress on Tuesday staged a protest at Rajwada, demanding justice for families affected by the contaminated water tragedy in Baghirathpura. Party leaders accused the state government and civic authorities of negligence and demanded accountability for the incident that claimed multiple lives. Addressing the gathering, AICC secretary and Indore division in-charge Usha Naidu said that fear has gripped residents over the safety of drinking water in the city. Now, when we come to Indore, people ask where and how we will drink water. There is fear even about drinking water in this city, she said. Demand to fix responsibility Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jitu Patwari said that if accountability is being spoken about at the national level, responsibility must also be fixed for the Baghirathpura incident. Poison was mixed in water that is meant to give life. 32 families have lost a loved one. This was not just an accident; it reflects the extreme level of corruption, he said. Patwari questioned whether compensation of Rs 2 lakh was enough to absolve authorities of responsibility and urged citizens to raise questions against those elected to power. Key demands raised Indore City Congress Committee president Chintu Chouksey and District Congress Committee president Vipin Wankhede said the protest was held to press for: · Rs1 crore compensation for each family that lost a member · A government job for one member of each affected family · Resignation of minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav · Registration of criminal cases against all those responsible A large number of residents from Baghirathpura also participated in the protest. Former minister questions government response Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma alleged that Vijayvargiya was directly responsible for the incident and should resign. He also expressed concern that despite the Chief Minister visiting Indore twice after the incident, he did not meet the affected families. Congress to test drinking water Patwari announced that the Congress will now conduct daily water testing across the city. He assigned Chintu Chouksey the responsibility of deploying two vehicles to test water quality in every ward and make the reports public. A mobile water testing vehicle was flagged off from the protest site.
