Senior eye specialist Dr. Hemlata Srivastava, who was previously posted at Jabalpur District Hospital, was forcibly taken away by some unknown people in their car. Upon learning of the incident, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed serious concern and have written to the Collector and SP demanding strict action. The Madan Mahal police station has started investigation based on the complaint. According to IMA, retired doctor Hemlata Srivastava (72) lives alone in the posh Right Town area of the city. She owns more than 20 thousand square feet of land and a bungalow, which some people are reportedly eyeing. It is being reported that Dr. Hemlata’s mental and physical condition is also not good. Video surfaces of being taken away in white car A video from Monday evening has also surfaced, showing some people arriving in a white car (MP 20 ZX 9..43) to take Dr. Hemlata. One number of the car is partially erased. During this time, Dr. Abhijit Mukherjee, who lives in the neighborhood, protested. When he asked where they were taking Dr. Hemlata, the car occupants said that some people were waiting at the temple. Despite the protest, they took her along saying that if there’s anything to discuss, it can be done at the Gayatri Temple. Doctor was living alone after death of husband and son Dr. Hemlata Srivastava had served at Jabalpur District Hospital for a long time and is known among patients for her simple and friendly nature. A month ago, her husband Mahesh Srivastava passed away, while her son Dr. Rachit Srivastava had died four years ago. Since then, she had been living alone at home. Serious allegation by IMA IMA President Dr. Richa Sharma has alleged in her letter that some people associated with the temple forcibly made Dr. Hemlata sit in a car with the intention of grabbing her property. She also alleged that on January 22, 2026, during her physical and mental incapacity, a registered will was fraudulently made to transfer her property in the name of Gayatri Temple. IMA says that Dr. Hemlata’s condition is serious and she needs immediate admission and treatment in ICCU, but deliberately she was taken to the temple instead of the hospital, so that she would die due to lack of treatment and the property could be seized. Dr. Richa Sharma also alleged that the role of Dr. Hemlata’s sister, who is herself a gynecologist, should also be investigated in this alleged conspiracy. Police Started Investigation Madan Mahal Police Station In-charge Dhiraj Raj said that Police have received a complaint about an elderly woman doctor being taken away in a white car. A written complaint has also been filed by the IMA. Police are trying to find out where Dr. Hemlata is currently and what her condition is. The entire matter is being investigated.
