The frame of a bridge under construction on the Narmada River, part of the state’s largest ring road project being built in Jabalpur, collapsed late Sunday night. In this accident, killing 1 worker on the spot and injuring 2 others. The injured have been admitted to Medical College for treatment. According to information, workers were pouring concrete on a 100-foot-high pillar, while NHAI engineers were present nearby. It is suspected that a nut-bolt in the iron frame became loose and failed, which caused this accident. As soon as information about the incident was received, NHAI Project Director Amritlal Sahu along with administrative officers reached the spot. After the accident, NHAI has issued a notice to NKC Company, Gurugram, which is constructing the bridge. An expert team from NHAI Delhi will reach Jabalpur on Tuesday for investigation. Ring road work is progressing rapidly. A flyover bridge is being constructed on Narmada river near Lalpur village near New Bhedaghat, for which 30 pillars are being built. On Sunday night also, concrete was being poured into the iron frame above the pillar. During the work, it was necessary to maintain balance on both sides. Engineers were standing on one side, while 8 to 10 workers were present on the other side. Suddenly the balance on one side was disturbed and three workers fell down from a height of about 100 feet along with the iron frame. In this accident, Mursalem (35), resident of West Bengal, died on the spot. While Rasal S (22) and Rajeshwar Singh (21) were seriously injured. The NHAI Project Director remained at the scene until around three o’clock late at night. He also visited the medical college to check on the condition of the injured. After the accident, on the instructions of Collector Raghavendra Singh, SDM Pankaj Mishra reached the medical college late at night and met the injured. He informed that one worker has died, while treatment of two workers is ongoing. Both have fractures in their hands and legs. The SDM said that investigation of the case has been started. Statements of employees and engineers present at the scene will be taken. If company negligence is found in the investigation, strict action will be taken. The investigation report will be submitted to the Collector soon. Work was going on in darkness It was dark all around at the accident site. Concrete was being poured into the iron centering with the help of two large machines. After the accident, chaos erupted at the scene. The rescue operation was conducted in the presence of the Project Director. It was also investigated whether any other worker was trapped in the frame. The concrete was removed with the help of machines. Villagers said – work was being done without safety arrangements
After the accident, local villagers reached the spot. The villagers alleged that work was being carried out without adequate safety arrangements, which led to this accident. It is being reported that on regular days, a large number of workers work at the bridge construction site, but due to it being Sunday, the number of workers was less.
