A dramatic marital dispute triggered panic in Jharaa village of Singrauli district on Saturday after a woman climbed a high-tension electricity tower following an argument with her husband over Rs 250. The incident drew hundreds of villagers to the spot, leading to chaos in the area. Dispute over money at village fair According to Sarai police, the woman’s husband works in a private job in Gujarat and resides there. Around 3 pm, the woman visited a village fair in Jharaa without informing him. While at the fair, she called her husband and asked for ₹250 to take a boat swing ride. During the phone conversation, the husband reportedly got angry over her visiting the fair without informing him and allegedly told her not to come before him again. Deeply upset by the exchange, the woman climbed a nearby high-tension power tower and began creating a commotion. To avert any untoward incident, the NTPC’s 36,000 kV high-tension line was shut down, affecting power supply towards Delhi for nearly three hours. Woman rescued safely after three hours Administrative officials engaged the woman in continuous dialogue and counseled her. After nearly three hours of efforts, she was safely brought down from the tower. Sarai SDM Dharm Mishra said the situation was completely brought under control through administrative intervention. He added that the woman is being counseled and details of the entire incident are being gathered. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
