“Sir! My husband’s body rotted in the well for 8 days. The police used to come home and say that your husband has run away with some girl. He is enjoying himself there. Here you also eat, drink and enjoy.” This anger towards the police belongs to Shraddha Bharika, who lives in Pakariya village of Shahdol. On January 22, her husband Shivpal Bhariya’s (31) body was found in a well 800 meters away from their house. He had been missing since January 14. The next day, on January 15, the family registered a missing person report at the Keshwahi outpost. The family alleges that if the police had shown promptness, Shivpal might have been alive. Instead, they kept blaming the missing husband. After the incident, the team of Dainik Bhaskar reached Pakariya village, about 50 km from the district headquarters. Here, they spoke to Shivpal’s wife Shraddha Bhariya, mother Damayanti, father Mahipal, and the police to learn about the case. Wife said – Woman’s photo not shown As soon as her husband’s photo appeared in front of Shivpal’s unconscious wife Shraddha Bhariya, she started tearing it after seeing it. When people caught her, she fainted and fell. She kept saying repeatedly that her husband has been murdered, but the police are protecting the murderers. Shraddha Bhariya said that her husband used to work at a kiosk center operated in the village. This center belongs to Sitasharan Sharma. As usual, on the evening of January 14, her husband Shivpal came home. I asked him to eat, but he didn’t eat. Around 8 PM, he left saying, “I am going towards the settlement.” After that, he did not return. All efforts went futile We searched for him all night, but couldn’t find him. The next day, we searched among relatives and acquaintances, but he was not found. After that, a complaint was lodged at Keshavahi police outpost around 6:30 PM. Two days later, two policemen came home. They said that you people are getting worried unnecessarily. Eat, drink, and enjoy yourselves comfortably. Your husband has run away with some girl. He is enjoying himself there. When we asked which girl and where he had gone, we received no answer. Saying this, the policemen left. After filing the report, no attempt was made to search for the husband. Three days later, two policemen came home again. They said – Shivpal has gone to earn money. Why are you people crying? Laugh and eat heartily. Crying, Shraddha Bhariya said, “If the police had searched, perhaps he would have been alive. The police misled us.” As soon as she said this, Shraddha fainted and fell. Mobile found near hardware shop on the second day Shivpal used to work at a kiosk center operated in the village. Besides his parents, his family also includes his wife, son, and daughter. The family is in shock after the incident. His father Madanlal said that there is a shop named Siya Hardware in the village. His son Shivpal used to work at the kiosk there. When they were searching for him after he went missing, Siaram, the owner of the hardware shop, delivered his son’s mobile phone home. He said that Shivpal’s mobile was found lying near his shop. After the body was found, the family has also expressed suspicion on Siaram. Mother said – working at the kiosk proved fatal Shivpal’s mother was also in a terrible state, crying inconsolably. She is also in shock after the death of her younger son. She says that working at the kiosk center proved fatal for her son. Her son has been murdered. The police are protecting Siyaram Hardware and the woman. Not only this, a house is being built here under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while the police claim it is part of your son’s illegal earnings. How was a permanent house built? They were showing someone’s photo, but when we asked them to show us too, they refused. Instead of searching for her son, they kept accusing him. Shraddha and father Madanlal stated that the police took their signatures on blank papers. When a missing person report was filed at Keshwahi outpost, they were given a handwritten report on paper. When Keshwahi police did not take action, a complaint was filed with the SP on January 19. Talked to the woman more than 50 times a day Police extracted Shivpal’s mobile call details. It was found that before the incident, a single number was called more than 50 times. This number belonged to a woman from the village. Police called the woman for questioning. Although she admitted to talking, she denied any involvement in the incident. Currently, the police have not found any concrete evidence. Family members have also accused the woman. People agreed after the administration’s assurance Angry people had also protested on Thursday afternoon. They chanted slogans against the police. After persuasion, the family members reluctantly agreed to have the body post-mortemed. The angry people have accused the hardware shop owner of murder. On the second day, Friday, the family members again sat on a protest with the body on the road. They agreed after the administration’s assurance and the body was cremated. Interrogation of suspect woman and hardware owner Investigation officer Dhanpuri SDOP Vikas Pandey says that the case is being investigated from every angle. The body found in the well is approximately one week old. The FSL team was called to the spot. The deceased’s mobile phone has been found, and its CDR has been extracted. It was revealed that the deceased was in contact with a suspect woman, and the police are investigating. Siyasharan, the owner of Siya Hardware, is also being interrogated.
