The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to increase land acquisition compensation for farmers and landowners amid growing opposition to existing rates in development projects. To this end, a Land Acquisition Compensation Calculation Factor Determination Committee has been constituted to review the current framework. The committee comprises Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Chaitanya Kashyap. Stakeholder consultations to be held The committee will seek suggestions from a wide range of stakeholders, including farmers, landowners, public representatives, farmer organisations, industry representatives, the Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the general public. The aim is to ensure a fair and inclusive review process. Ensuring fair compensation for affected families Addressing a meeting of the committee at the Mantralaya, Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh said that while development is essential, the interests of farmers and citizens whose land is acquired for projects must be fully protected. “The land acquisition process should ensure that affected families receive fair, just and better compensation,” Singh said. The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Tulsi Ram Silawat and MSME Minister Chaitanya Kashyap. Need for land in development projects Minister Singh noted that land availability is crucial for industrial development, infrastructure creation and the implementation of other development schemes in the state. Such land may be government-owned or privately owned, including land belonging to farmers and ordinary citizens. To avoid discrepancies in compensation calculation during infrastructure-related land acquisition, the state government—under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav—has formed the ministerial committee to review the compensation calculation factor. Review of existing compensation factor At present, Madhya Pradesh follows a Factor-1 system for calculating land acquisition compensation. Singh said the committee has been formed to examine the possibility of increasing this factor and to gather views from all stakeholders before taking a decision. Deadline for suggestions announced The committee held detailed discussions with stakeholders during its meeting at the Mantralaya on Wednesday. The deadline for submitting suggestions has been set as January 30, 2026. Citizens can send their suggestions via email to psrevenue@mp.gov.in . All submissions will be examined on practical and factual grounds, after which the committee will initiate further necessary action.
