A model in Gwalior suffered severe facial damage after a beauty salon mixed excess chemicals into the wax during a facial waxing session. The incident occurred at Kayakalp Beauty Parlor and Makeup Studio on Nai Sadak. According to the model, the staff applied the chemically contaminated wax on her face, and some of it even spilled, causing intense burning and unbearable pain. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Treatment failed, surgery suggested After the incident, the model complained to salon owner Sunita, who applied a paste on her face and assured her that the skin would heal. However, the condition worsened over time, with wounds and dark spots appearing. The model underwent treatment from skin specialists for nearly a year, but there was no improvement. Doctors eventually recommended surgery, estimated to cost around Rs 50,000. Career affected due to facial scars The model had multiple projects lined up, but the facial damage severely impacted her career. Due to the salon’s negligence, her professional future was put at risk. Frustrated by the lack of accountability, the model filed a complaint with the District Consumer Forum on 22 September 2023. The final hearing concluded on 16 December 2025. Court orders penalty on salon owner On 18 January 2026, the District Consumer Forum fined the salon owner Rs 20,000 and ordered an additional Rs 2,000 as court expenses. The forum ruled the case as a “deficiency in service” due to negligence during the waxing process. Court verdict: Negligence led to damage The court stated that beauty service providers must maintain professional care and caution. Any lapse in such services is considered a deficiency under the Consumer Protection Act. The salon owner has been given 45 days to pay the penalty. Failure to comply will incur a 6 percent interest on the amount.
